Anything that cannot be placed stays owed rather than being forced somewhere wrong. The parish still owes that Mass, and the register keeps saying so until it is celebrated.
The Law, Kept by the Software.
Most parish software treats canon law as a settings page. Here the rules are conditions in the database, so a mistake is refused rather than reported afterwards. A deacon cannot be recorded as the celebrant of a Mass. Not warned against. Unable to be stored.

Questions
- What is a Mass intention?
- A Mass intention is the person or purpose a priest offers a particular Mass for, usually requested by a family and accompanied by an offering. Canon law requires the parish to record each one, celebrate it within a year, and keep a register of them.
- Do we have to build our calendar first?
- No. You describe a normal week once (Sunday 8, 10 and 12, Saturday vigil, weekdays at 8) and every future date follows from it. There is no year to generate, no annual rollover, and no setup fee for someone to build it for you.
- What happens when a funeral takes a Mass that already has intentions?
- You mark it cancelled and every intention on it is offered a new home near the date the family originally asked for, no two given the same seat. You review the list once and approve it. Anything that cannot be placed stays owed rather than being forced somewhere wrong.
- Will the diocese accept a digital register?
- Canon 958 requires a book; it does not specify paper. We keep a numbered, unbroken, append-only register and print the bound copy for parishes whose diocese still expects one. We never tell you paper is unnecessary.
- Can parishioners request a Mass from our website?
- Yes, and it is included rather than sold separately. You get a page, in English and Spanish, where a family can ask for a Mass and choose the time they want. Requests arrive in the office queue for someone to accept; nothing is booked behind your back.
- Do you take a percentage of the offering?
- Never. Canon 947 requires that even the appearance of trading in Mass offerings be avoided. One hundred per cent reaches your priest, and we charge the parish a flat fee instead.
